Calling anyone who has read “The World to Come”

Cover - The World to Come by Dara HornSo I finished The World to Come  last night. And it’s still on my mind today. Published in 2006, this second novel by author, Dara Horn really got the wheels churnin’, so to speak (or write).

I thoroughly enjoyed the book – I mean I read it in one lazy weekend of pool lounging (and that factors in the overnight time-out I needed to take to get through a particular vivid chapter involving the Vietnam War). I am left though, now that the book is done, with questions.

For instance, questions about the plot line of the story. This was one of those novels where some things don’t get answered and some parts of the ending are a little ambiguous. But not in a bad way… not in a way where I’m unsatisfied. Rather in a way that leaves me musing over the story just a little longer than I probably would normally.

(Hence the reason for the second post about it…)

What most of my questions are actually about though is the religious aspect of the novel. The ideas of faith, of trust, of love that the book explores through its Jewish characters, have really got me thinking. And many of these questions are directly relevant to this New Outlook.

So I’m wondering, has anyone else read it? What were your thoughts, impressions about it? And if you haven’t read it, I’m giving it the Marissa-stamp of approval, for whatever that’s worth!
